I could have thrown in the old ring through the nose, but that would be pushing the cheese level a little. Plus, after I painted his eye, I couldn't help but feel a slight attachment to him on a human level. I didn't have the heart to pierce his sensitive nose. :(
Minotaurs are obviously great weaklings, as they evade having to pierce their delicate ears by piercing a horn instead.
